I am a North Carolina native currently living in Haw River, on the southern
portion of Alamance County. I have an amazing family, where I am a husband
to my wife Tina, father to my awesome 3 kids Taylor, Kendal, and Arron. I am
a avid leader in the community where I serve in various capacities in business
networks, civic organizations, and within my church. I bring a combined total
of more than 20 years leadership experience in the public and private sectors
in healthcare. I served more than 10 years in public service as a Paramedic
employed by local government which afforded me the opportunity to learn the
pros and challenges local government departments face serving our
communities. I currently work in the private sector in clinical research leadership
where I am afforded an opportunity in drug development, to impact the lives
of many families, just like mine and yours, seeking ways to fight the many
medical illnesses we see daily.
I, like many others, have experienced life without some of the basic necessities
as a child coming from a single parent home, with a very limited income, and
1 of 4 siblings growing up in eastern North Carolina. Despite it all, my mother
did the best she could providing for all of us during my childhood and I am
humble and thankful for her. I'm a product of the public school system and
spent much of my extracurricular activities attending the local Boys & Girls Club,
participating in parks and recreation sports and school sports most of my childhood. I faced the loss of my father at the early age of 12 just before the most vulnerable time of a young man's life. I depended on faith and the old African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child" to navigate the many challenges a teenager faces in the inner city. Despite the many ups and downs, I managed to graduate high school and go on to college where I faced new challenges of life resulting in prolongation of eventually receiving my undergraduate degree despite the odds. It was during that time I fell in love with serving the public. I worked as a Paramedic and quickly advanced to a leadership capacity at a young age. I loved people and worked with some awesome public service colleagues over the years. My work and childhood experiences taught me how to put myself last and my neighbor first, regardless of our backgrounds, political views or ideologies. My ability to build relationships and find common ground despite our differences has positioned me as the ideal candidate for the Board of Alamance County Commissioners.
Over my childhood and adult career, I have been afforded the opportunity to serve in many different organizations and civic groups in my community. I currently serve on the Alamance County Local Emergency Planning Committee, member and former board member of the Mebane Business Association, member of the NAACP, Agent for the CHANGE mentors program ( Choose Having A New Growth Experience) serving our at risk young men in ABSS, and I serve as a leader at my local church to name a few.
It is my goal to bring strong leadership, strong passion for the issues that matter most in Alamance County, and be inclusive, by being a listening ear to ALL of Alamance County verses the voices of a few, when it comes to my decisions as County Commissioner.
